Brian Waller lost a couple of fly reels last week when they fell out of his backpack. He thinks it happened somewhere between my house and the flats upstream. He and I have searched the area in vain. The hope now is that someone may have found them and has been waiting to find the rightful owner.
If you do find them, please contact me or Brian. In the meantime, my grandchildren arrive today for a visit, so I may put them on the search since they are a lot closer to the ground.
Water Temperature = 24.3ºC (75.7º) at 10:30 a.m. today.
Flow: Up slightly from last week, but still awful low.
Hatches: Damselflies, Deerflies.
Well, those pesky Deerflies have finally showed up. I hate 'em. Do fish eat them things? Still a lot of those green and black Damselflies around. I've seen a lot of relatively large nymph carcasses (1"+) just above the waterline in several areas.
Since Damselflies and Dragonflies crawl out of the water to emerge, I doubt now if it's them that the fish are rising to. While I was checking the temperature this morning, a (app.) 12" brown jumped clear of the surface, did a 360º outside loop in mid air and fell back in tail first. I was hoping it was a Deerfly it was after. Not likely. There are still a lot of other bugs around.
People are still reporting multiple fish days, so the season continues.
